Everyone, the books in the library all have a sticker with a code written in it. You all have seen it, right?
These codes are called Call Numbers (Call No.) used to distinguish books from each other. When looking for a book, it tells the location of the material and helps as a guide to find other associated books. In this article, we are going to take some time to look at the code and talk about how to find a book on the bookshelf.
Searching the library’s homepage
To find the book you want to read, we should first search on the Library Website.
Use Catalog Search if looking for key words.
If looking for other specific details, use Advanced Search.
When looking for a certain title, various related materials will come up.
Select the one you are interested in. The material’s information page will come up.
We will be explaining the parts highlighted in red.
Location refers to the location inside the library, it will tell you the floor in the central library or library branch it is in.
Call No. as explained above, shows the category and the book’s code.
Service are other services available for you.
The sign means Send SMS. If you use this option, the information of the material will be sent to the phone (through Kakao Talk) that you have connected to your Eureka account.
We will explain the remaining 2 in the following part (Good to know: extra tips).
If the book is Available, you can borrow it freely at the library. We will check what to do in other cases later.
Let’s say you are looking for the 유학생을 위한 대학한국어 2: 말하기, 듣기 (University Korean for students 2: speaking and writing) book. You used the SMS option and received this message.
The book has a code 411.86 대91ㅎ2. It is on the 4th floor, in the 400s category.
411.86 is after 411.57, so we will check the right shelf.
We check the 411.86 section, and here it is!
Looking between these bookshelves in alphabetical order, you can find the book symbol of the book we are looking for.
The order is as the arrow shows, from top to bottom, from left to right.
Tip: Finding related books
